Dear YOU,

Here’s the thing.

It’s been a long time. I used to write these happy, amazingly optimistic things all the time to tell the people I love that I love them.

I said bold things like “it’s going to be okay” and “you got this” and never questioned if that was actually true or not—because I believed it so hard that nothing could change my mind.

Well, it’s been a long time for a reason.

The reason is that I saw people whose lives are not going to be okay.

I met people that didn’t have what they needed to succeed.

I saw that the world had a real, actual dark side—one that didn’t come from cartoon villainy or poor decisions—I saw that sometimes things just aren’t great or awesome.

And I started to fear that those things I saw and said weren’t true—but that they were just some hollow shout into a void to make us feel better about swinging one day further away from what we wanted to be.

And you know what happened because of that?

I got really down on myself.

For a long time.

It took a lot of pep talks and a lot of “umph” to get me going again, but I want to tell you this—it’s going to be alright. You got this. Life is worth it. You are important, and the things you have to do and say MATTER.

I’ve realized that those things are still true, even in the deeper, darker parts of life, and they matter even more when you say them through gritted teeth and with tears, blood, or sweat running down your face.

Because someone else has already said them just like that for us.

Folks, it’s a great day and age we live in.

There’s hot water whenever we need it, I can call my friends and family for free, and I have the right to type up these things I have to say and send them to you.

Don’t give up.

Don’t let being down keep you down.

Remember that the sun rises again, and that means a new day—whether it’s day 900 or day 0 for whatever you have going on, and it matters that you are here.
